Building an investment organisation

It's possible to make a lot of ISK in this game though legitimate methods, and I've been looking into a number of those methods. But none of them are as effective as (legitimately) leveraging other people's money to use for building investments and generating wealth.

Today I've had someone invest hundreds of millions of ISK in me, with the intention of 'kickstarting' my money-making explorations with the hope that it will earn them something in return.

I'm extremely grateful for their support, and I don't want to disappoint them.

Leverage is the key. One person can only do so much, while many people can do so much more.

Dirty stinking scammers!

But then there's the issue of scammers in the game, and oh my, there's so many! So any legitimate attempts by players to gather other people's money seems to be considered as an attempt to scam. And in most cases, it's probably true.

So the challenge I've got before me is this: how do I get other people's money to invest in making more money without them thinking it's a scam?

The answer seems to be that I can't. They're probably always going to think it's a scam and that any money they invest will be lost to them without any return.

But I think there are ways around this challenge.

Only fly ships that you can afford to lose

I've seen this bandied around quite a lot. Only fly ships that you can afford to lose, with the expectation that you WILL lose it. But enjoy your time in it until you don't have it any more.

I think the same can be done for investments. Only invest what you can afford to lose, with the expectation that you WILL lose it, but enjoy whatever return you get from it until you don't have it any more.

And just maybe you won't lose it. Just maybe the return on your investment will outweigh the investment.

For example, let's say someone invested 100 million ISK to buy shares in the investment corporation - it was what they can afford to lose. As a shareholder, they'll get a monthly dividend returned to them based on the number of shares they have and the amount of profit the organisation experiences. It might be a very short time before their investment has been paid back to them with dividends, and anything beyond that period is pure profit.

Shareholders could also sell their shares back to the corporation at any time, but for an amount less than what they paid for them. This would discourage quick refunds, allowing the shareholders to get a return before cutting their losses and getting out. Or to continue getting a return if they stay invested as a shareholder.

If people only invest what they're prepared to lose, just like their investments into the ships they fly, then the potential rewards would outweigh the potential losses.

So are you a scammer?

I'm not a scammer, but I understand that many people reading this might think I am. And I'm sure a scammer would be quick to say they're not a scammer too! It's a lose-lose situation.

But the potential for something great is there too, and if I can get people onboard that can invest only what they're prepared to lose, then they're already overcoming their fears of being scammed for more than what they can afford to lose, and allowing them the potential for great returns on their investments as well.

What will you be investing in?

As I mentioned at the top of this post, there are many legitimate methods of generating wealth. I'd like to invest in many or all of them. These include:

  • Mining
  • Manufacturing
  • Trading
  • Planetary Interaction
  • Blueprint Research
  • Invention
You'll be doing all that??

Obviously not. It's too much for me! Plus there's the fact that I'm still new and getting my skills up to a level where I can efficiently do all of those things will be next to impossible.

Remember, it's about leverage. Many people can do so much more than one.

Setting up an investment corporation

When I've completed all my career missions and earned from them what I can, I'll be branching out on my own and setting up my own corporation. It's obviously going to be some kind of industrial corporation, and I'll be recruiting specialists that can manage each of those industrial activities, and then there'll be staff members to work those activities where appropriate.

I think all members of the corporation will be automatically given shares and made shareholders so that they're invested in the success of the corporation, along with external investors.

I don't want this to be just about me. I want this to be a legitimate business operation, legitimately earning money and investing in itself to earn more money, so that investors can earn more from their investments.

There are many industrial organisations out there doing the same thing. I want to do it and develop a reputation for reputable investment strategies, while documenting this entire process in this blog.

All I can offer is this - trust me only as much as you can afford to lose, and just maybe you won't lose it.

  1. You have to be very careful with member rights in Your corporation. Many people will join You only to get access to wallet or to Your assets - especially that You may became famous in some small circles thanks to that blog - that may attract corp thiefs.

Only give people roles they need. Make sure They dont have access to places they dont need for their role in business.
